Department of Chemotherapy I (Day stationary)





Outpatient chemotherapy had been carried out in the Azerbaijan Republic more than 20 years. Outpatient chemotherapy cabinet was established in the National Center of Oncology for the first time in June 22, 1991. The work of the cabinet had been extended and functioned as department since 2014 and continued in a new therapeutic building.

Nowadays, chemotherapy protocols of all localization of malignant tumors under outpatient condition have practically been developed. Year by year, the number of patients receiving outpatient chemotherapy has been increased. Outpatient chemotherapy allows people to continue their previous active way of life, as well as, retain work ability and through this way, financial concerns of patients has been decreased, quality life of patients has been improved.

If we assess the quality life of patients from three aspects :

  • Physical and functional
  • Psycho-emotional
  • Social economic

The main advantage of outpatient treatment should be positive psycho-emotional factors. Thus, the general state of patient highly depends on maintaining the stereotypes of life, social and family ties, as well as preserving the anonymity of diagnosis. Outpatient treatment usually allows patients to feel themselves at home, patients less exposed to the negative psychological effects of hospital, iatrogenic injury and in-hospital risk of infection is decreased to a minimum. Individual dream, rest and nutrition regime selection, the favorable effect of environmental factors help patient to copy with chemotherapy treatment.

The main working principles of outpatient chemotherapy department :

  • Making consultative assistance to oncologic patients applying to polyclinic department of NOC.
  • Realizing possible chemotherapy treatment under outpatient condition.
  • Outpatient examination of patients during treatment, as well as, permanent control  over peripheral blood indices
  • Effectiveness of treatment – analysis of treatment results, assessment of collateral effects.
  • Organization of active and passive patronage of patients.

Nowadays, the work of outpatient chemotherapy department is established on the level of meeting all world standards in National Center of Oncology. Four doctors, three nurses, four little nurses are working at this department and almost, chemotherapy treatment of all localization of malignant tumors – mammary gland, the members of the female sex, prostate preach, gastrointestinal tract, lung, head and neck tumors, lymphogranulomatosis and lymphosarcomatosis.
