Dr. Soltanov is a high level specialist in the field of clinical oncology.

He studied at the Faculty of Treatment and Prevention of Azerbaijan Medical University from 1979 to 1985.

Between the years of 1985 and 1987, he did a residency at the Department of Thoracic Oncology of  All-Union Oncological Scientific Center of the USSR. 

He worked as a junior scientific employee at Azerbaijan Roentgenology, Radiology and Oncology Scientific Research Institute from 1987 to 1988.

Between the years of 1988 and 1991, he received a postgraduate education at the Department of Thoracic Oncology of All-Union Oncological Scientific Center of the USSR. 

He defended a Candidate dissertation on the topic “Difficulties, mistakes and complications of surgical treatment for lung cancer” at the Russian Oncological Scientific Center in Moscow in 1991.

He worked as a junior scientific employee at the National Center of Oncology from 1991 to 1992.

He was Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Central Military Hospital of the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan Republic from 1992 to 1999.

Since 1999, he has been Head of the Department of Thoracic Oncology of the National Center of Oncology.

In 2012, he defended a Doctoral dissertation on the topic “Epidemiological aspects of lung cancer spreading in Azerbaijan”.

More 170 scientific articles and one monograph have been published.

A number of scientific researches have been carried out under the leadership of Dr. Soltanov.
