Dr. Shamistan studied at the Pediatric Faculty of Azerbaijan Medical University from 1999 to 2005.

Between 2005 and 2007, he did a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Kazan State Medical University in Russia.

In 2006, he did an observership at the Oncogynecology Department of the Republican Oncology Hospital of Tatarstan in Russia. 

He received a postgraduate education at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Kazan State Medical University in Russia between 2007 and 2010.

In 2008, He took advanced training courses on Endoscopic surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) at the Medical Academy.

In 2010,  he took advanced training courses on Ultrasound diagnostics at the Medical Academy.

In 2010, he took an advanced training course on the application of ultrasound in obstetrics, gynecology and oncology (application of 4D-ultrasound) at Kazan Interregional Clinical-Diagnostic Center in Russia.

He has been Head of the Department of Oncogynecology of the National Center of Oncology since 2010. During this period he has performed more than 1,000 major and minor surgeries on benign and malignant tumors of the female reproductive system, including more than 300 laparoscopic surgeries (225 of them - total laparoscopic hysterectomy).

In 2011, he took an advanced training course on photodynamic diagnostics and therapy (PDD) in Moscow Research Oncology Institute named after P.A. Hertsen in Russia.

He is a member of the Russian Society of Gynecologists and Endoscopists.

He has a patent № 2375976 for the invention "Laparoscopy Device".

In 2013, the diploma of the Russian Candidate of Medical Sciences was confirmed and he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine in Azerbaijan.

For the first time in Azerbaijan, he performed total laparoscopic hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy in a patient with endometrial cancer at the Department of Oncogynecology of the National Center of Oncology. Also, a single-port laparoscopic hysterectomy was performed for the first time in Azerbaijan.

Dr. Shamistan performs hysteroscopic and hystero-resectoscopic operations in atypical hyperplasia, recurrent endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial polyps and submucosal fibroids.
