The results of the international symposium held in Baku have been discussed in the United States of America

As the result of the collaboration between the National Center of Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) symposium on the topic “Multidisciplinary Cancer Management Course” was held in Baku, on September 15-16, 2018

 The conference focused on two primary cancer types—breast, head and neck—as well as a session on palliative care. 

The main purpose of the event was to improve a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment at the National Center of Oncologyand also in the regions. The two-day course consisted of didactic lectures, case presentations and interactive sessions on breast, head and neck cancer.

More than 200 healthcare professionals specializing in oncology, radiation and medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, nurses, and students participated in the event. Nearly 20 doctors from neighboring Georgia and Iraq also attended the event.

Preceding the ASCO MCMC, on September 14, 2018, a course on “The Role of Nurses in the Symptom Management of Patients With Cancer” was held at the NCO with the support of ONS. It was the first international event conducted for nurses in Azerbaijan. Nearly 70 nurses from Azerbaijan have improved their knowledge and experience in the management of symptoms in cancer patients. The course was designed as interactive sessions, group activities.

The results of this international events have been discussed with great interest. The article about the symposium was published in the “ASCO Connection” journal in January, 2019.
