The International Gynecological Congress was held in Baku
The International Gynecological Congress "GYNOAZ 2023 Tumors of Female Reproductive Organs" dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Academic Zarifa Aliyeva was held in Baku under the joint organization of the National Center of Oncology and the Azerbaijan Society of Oncologists.
Along with Azerbaijani specialists, experts from Germany, the United States of America, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Russia participated in the congress held at the National Center of Oncology.
Azad Karimli, Chief physician of the NCO, greeted the event participants on behalf of Academic Jamil Aliyev, the Director General of the Center and wished success to the work of the congress.
Dr. Azad talked about Academic Zarifa Aliyeva's exceptional merits in the development of health care and in particular ophthalmology in Azerbaijan. He noted that Zarifa Aliyeva made significant research accomplishments in the examination and treatment of trachoma, which was widespread in the Republic at the time, as well as in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of occupational eye diseases among the chemical and electronic industry workers. Furthermore, Zarifa Aliyeva had great contribution to the improvement of therapeutic ophthalmology. The outstanding ophthalmologist-scientist was the author of 12 monographs, more than 150 scientific works and one scientific invention. She was an outstanding scientist and a real Azerbaijani woman. People loved her for her high human qualities, foresight, and patience.
Academic Zarifa Aliyeva was also a prominent public figure. She was a member of the former USSR Peace Protection Committee, Deputy Chairwoman of the Azerbaijan Peace Protection Committee, a member of the Board of Directors of the All-Union "Bilik" Society and a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Scientific Society of Ophthalmologists. She was awarded the "Honorary Scientist" title.

Academic Dilara Kaidarova, the General Director of the Kazakhstan Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, Professor Jalid Sehouli, Head of the Gynecology Department of the German Charité - Berlin Medical University, Dr. Adak Pirmorady-Sehouli, a specialist in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy of the same University, Murat Gultekin Professor of Hacettepe University, Professor Nadeem R. Abu-Rustum, Head of the Department of Gynecology of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Yerlan Kukubasov, Head of the Oncogynecology Center of Kazakhstan Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, Dr. Olga Shpilyova and Dr. Aida Gilyadova from the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov participated as speakers of the Congress.
Dr. Shamistan Aliyev Ph.D, Head of the Oncogynecology Department of the NCO, Professor Jamila Gurbanova, Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Islam Mahalov, Professor of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Dr. Turan Nadirova from the Department of Diagnosis and treatment of Precancerous Diseases of the NCO, Saadat Sultanova, Professor of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Dr. Mahira Ismayilova Ph.D , Director of the Women's Center of the Central Clinic, Dr. Tarana Bayramova Ph.D, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Central Customs Hospital, Dr. Turab Janbakhishov Ph.D, Head of the II Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Azerbaijan Medical University and others joined the Congress from Azerbaijan.
On February 17, during the practical part of the event, live surgeries were broadcasted for the participants from the operating room. Two master classes with the participation of the specialists took place in the framework of the Congress.
