New  two-storey corps of the Radiotherapy Department were additionally built and 2 linear accelerator with high energy of 6-10 MeV by American Company “Varian Medical System”were installed at the National Center of Oncology. The Company is the world’s leading manufacturer of medical devices for cancer treatment. Thus, the number of linear accelerators operating in the Department of the NCO has reached 7, which is the highest  rate in the world.

The process of acquaintance with the new building of the Department of the NCO was held after the ribbon-cutting  ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Director General of the NCO Academik Jamil Aliyev noted that in Azerbaijan special attention is paid to one of the most important areas of healthcare-Oncology. It was emphasized that due to the attention and care of the President of the Republic of  Azerbaijan, the National Center of Oncology is supplied with the most modern equipments. The NCO, which has a rich material-technical base and strong human resource can already be compared with the most leading cancer centers of the world.Noted that the main purpose  of the treatment is to prolong the life of patients,their recovery as possible.

In his speech Academik Jamil Aliyev said that in recent years, the NCO has been closely cooperating with leading companies in the world engaged in the production of the latest technologies necessary for the treatment of cancer patients.In October 2014, an agreement on cooperation was signed  between the NCO and American Company “Varian Medical Systems”,which designs and produces modern technologies for radiotherapy of malignant tumors.The NCO received the status of the official reference center.

Head of Department of Radiotherapy of the NCO,Honored Scientist,Professor Isa Isayev noted that in order to avoid the negative impact of radio emission on medical personnel,specific materials were used in the construction of the new building of the center on the basis of the recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency Situation of Azerbaijan. It was noted that 200-250 people daily and within a year up to 3 thousand people recieve radiotherapy in the Department of Radiotherapy of the NCO.The reference center of the “Varian Medical System”Company in Baku hosts practical trainings on radiotheraphy,as well as trainings on clinical programs dedicated to modern methods of radiotheraphy have been held for foreign doctors.At the sametime seminars are held both for radiation oncologists of Azerbaijan and for other specialists-medical physicists,engineers and technicians.In addition,16 generators are installed in the technical service room of the Department for uninterruptible power supply.It was also noted that learning of advanced methods of radiotheraphy,in particular,stereotactic radiosurgery is a very complicated.This method requires highly qualified  personnel and modern equipment.In this regard,trainings for medical physicists,engineers and technicians of the center were conducted by the leading European specialists.
