Department of General Oncology

“General Oncology” department of the National  Center of Oncology of the  Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan Republic functions as an independent unit from 1978. The founder and the current head of the department is Honoured Science Worker Academician .J.A.Aliev. The department provides comprehensive care for patients with breast, skin and soft tissue tumors. Highly skilled surgeons have significant experience in performing all type of surgical procedures for aforecited localizations.

The increasing worldwide tendency for conservative surgery made a shift towards organ-preserving breast cancer therapy (as lumpectomy, tumorectomy, quadrantectomy) and also axillary sentinel lymph node biopsy, which provides information that allows surgeons to avoid axillary-lymph-node dissection and has a favourable effect on quality of life of patients by reducing postoperative morbidity.

Immediate and delayed reconstruction with implants and musculocutaneous flaps is an option for patients who choose radical breast surgery. Approximately 800 surgeries are performed every year. Doctors of General Oncology Department are also involved in studies related to clinical research in breast cancer under the leadership of Academician .J.A.Aliyev. Doctors are trained in world’s most famous and largest clinics.
