Department of Radiation Therapy



Department of Radiotherapy of National Center of Oncology was founded in 1940 within Rentgen,Radiology and Oncology Scientific Research Institution. Since then scientific investigation efforts were made to increase an efficacy of radiotherapy as a part of complex treatment of oncological patients.

All advanced oncology methods used at the leading world class hospitals are utilized in full capacity at the Radiation Oncology Department. It includes:

  •    2D convensional radiotherapy,
  •    3D conformal radiotherapy,
  •    Intensive Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT),
  •    Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT),
  •    Volumetric Intensited-ModulatedArc Sherapy (Rapid Arc),
  •    Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS),
  •    Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT),
  •    Brachitherapy (intracavitary treatment gynecologic cancers and esophagus cancer, interstitial treatment prostate and breast cancer), concurrent radiochemotherapy.

Scientific research interest area in Radiation Oncology Department includes following issues:

  • elaboration and development of new and nonstandard regimens of radiotherapy and combined treatment;
  • working out and investigation of brachytherapy efficacy of different organs;
  • investigation of use radiomodificating agents;
  • development of different schedules of pre- and postoperative radiotherapy;
  • identification, prevention and treatment of side effects and complications occurring during and following  radio and radiochemotherapy.

  • CT-simulator – SIEMENS SOMATOM (Germany)
  • Mobile X-rays control: C-arm PHILIPS BV Libra (The Netherlands)
  •  Software systems for radiotherapy (ECLİPSE planning system (USA), Treatment planning system for brachytherapy- BRACHYVISION (USA), GammaMediX Brachytherapy Treatment Console (USA), XİO Workstation 2006 planning system (Germany), FOCAL Workstation (Germany)
