Department of Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine is a medical specialty involving the emission of radioactive substances which are given to living beings for to examine with special methods and devices.

As well as other fields of medicine, Nuclear Medicine occupies a special place in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases with a long-term development.Since 1970s, Nuclear Medicine as a medical specialty has been developing in field of imaging system, radiopharmaceuticals and devices detecting radioactive emission.

Devices are Gamma Camera (SPECT, SPECT-CT), PET-CT and PET-MRT. Radionuclides or pharmaceuticals combined with radionuclides are substances for diagnostics. These substances allow to image physiological functions of the body.

The main aim of these methods is the combination of functional imaging and anatomical imaging. Radiation dose of radiopharmaceuticals injecting intravenously has no harm to the human body.

                                                 Siemens (mCTS40) PET-CT

Complex of PET/CT diagnostic equipment that has a great advantage in early diagnosis and treatment of cancer was required in Department. PET/CT device in facility is a model of Siemens mC-S40 is equipped with high technology in Nuclear Medicine.

Cyclotron laboratory and PET/CT diagnostic equipment being set up in Department of Nuclear Medicine are used for current treatment methods in oncology. Cyclotron (Cyclone18/9) is energy particle accelerator and is used for producing short half-life radiopharmaceuticals in PET/CT investigation.
