Department of Invasive Diagnostics and Treatment

The Department of Invasive diagnostics and treatment of National Center of Oncology was organized in 2014. A purpose of the organization of the department is increase of  need for invasive methods in National Center of Oncology . In connection with scientific-technical progress, this direction has been developing in many countries of the world. It allowed to develop and provide for interventional radiologists with modern X-ray and diagnostic computer complex, traumatic medical tools.

As a result, along with diagnostic procedures, it became possible to perform a large volume of surgical procedures without laparotomy , using percutaneous and puncture with  the guidance and control of radiation methods. Recently, the direction of interventional radiology is separated from other specialties as a medical specialty for increasing treatment-diagnosis demands.

It should be noted that interventional radiologist’s responsibility is aimed at treatment manipulations, diagnostics responsibilities is gradually reduced. The main aim of organization of the department is to provide patients with medical care in highly developed technology.

Main directions of the department are following :

  • To implement minimally invasive interventional manipulations under roentgen,USG,CT. It includes :
  • fine-needle puncture biopsy
  • drainage of the bile duct, implement percutaneous cholangiostomy and cholecystostomy
  • installation percutaneous nephrostomy and gastrostomy
  • drainage of fluid containing cavities (abscesses, hematomas,  biloma)
  • expansion of pathological narrowings ,prosthetics (stenting),
  • hemostasis (by embolization)
  • implantation cava filter (prevention of pulmonary embolism),
  • Celiac plexus neurolysis
  • Percutaneous radiofrequency thermo ablation of primary and secondary formations of bone, soft tissue and parenchymal organs.
  • Therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopic  and endoscopic USG manipulations (ERCP, EUS, EBUS)
  • Taking biopsy from (EUS-FNA, EUS-TCB, EBUS-FNA):
  • Peripherally located formations of lung
  • Parenchymal and lymph nodes located around the gastrointestinal tract
  • Changes in the located wall of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts using EUS
  • Blockade and neurolysis  of celiac plexus for pains in  chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic carcinoma
  • Inject the targeted drugs by using EUS
  • Endoscopic treatment in pathology of pancreatobiliary area
  • Dilatation and stenting of the restrictions of the biliary tract and pancreas channels
  • Ablation of pancreatic cysts
  • Sphincterotomy of papilla
  • Recanalization, ablation and brachytherapy of  biliary tract obstruction with tumors
  • Endovascular interventions (embolization of vascular, uterine artery embolization, chemoembolization)
  • Chemical ablation of renal cysts and liver under control of USG
  • Development  and implementation of new  minimally invasive interventional medical-diagnosis  methods in clinical practice.

Roentgen operating rooms are equipped with modern angiography production of «SHIMADZU», modern endoscopic and endoscopic ultrasound equipment from the company «OLYMPUS», as well as ultrasound tomography. The equipment allows us to perform angiographic studies (visceral, peripheral and cerebral); endovascular manipulation; radiology intervention.

The joint use of methods of interneventional radiology and endoscopy is applied for corrective diagnosis, treatment, controlling and monitoring the effectivement of cancer treatment and its complications. The anesthesiological support is necessary to use for a comfortable procedure for the patient in the  x-ray operating room.
