The department of anesthesiology and intensive care of National Center of Oncology was set up in 1978 year.The department was headed by Mammadov Kochari,Rizvanov Jora,Abbasov Fazil,Yagubov Rufat.
Since 2009 year the department of anesthesiology has been working as an independent division within the National Center of Oncology. Since 2009 the department of anesthesiology has been headed by Azer Gasimov.
Work of the department of anesthesiology NCO based on the introduction of modern methods of anesthesia,including multicomponent anesthesia using inhaled anesthetics,varios options total intravenous anesthesia.
For airway managment apply oro-nasotracheal intubation,bronchial blocker for isolation of the lungs,various modifications of laryngeal mask.Widely used in practice are different versions of regional blockade( spinal,epidural,spino-epidural anesthesia)
Staff of the department of anesthesiology supports work of 12 operating rooms where all tipes of surgery for malignant tumors of different localization are being performed.
12 operating rooms and 2 recovery room are equipped with up to day anesthesia and resuscitation equipment, in compliance with the best international standards:

Staff of the department of anesthesiology perfoms preoperative consultation and evaluation to identify and correct possible risk factors.
These allow surgeons perform complicated operations,
including patient with severe comorbidities and sharply limited functional reserves.
In addition the staff of department of anesthesiology provide anesthesia for many diagnostic examination, endoscopy, brachytherapy. More 5000 anesthesia were hold for 2013year.

The research interest of the staff of the department is optimization of methods of anesthetic management aimed at prevention and treatment of perioperative complications in oncosurgery.
Currently the department is working on the methods for correctione of the ion and carbohydrate metabolism in patient with gastric cancer after radical gasterotomy.
