Azerbaijan-Turkey joint conference was held at the National Center of Oncology

On February 21, the Azerbaijan-Turkey Conference on Nosocomial Infections, organized by the National Center of Oncology (NCO) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held in Baku.

Presentations of the leading experts from Azerbaijan and Turkeyon nosocomial infections and antibacterial therapy were discussed in the conference.

About 250 oncologists, biologists, anaesthesiologist-resuscitators, infectious disease specialists, clinical pharmacists, pharmacists, obstetrician-gynaecologists, cardiologists, neonatologists, otorhinolaryngologists, molecular genetics, researchers of the field of clinic and fundamental oncology and other medical specialists participated in the event.

Professor Aziz Aliyev, First Deputy Director General of the National Center of Oncology, opened the conference, greeted the event participants on behalf of Academic Jamil Aliyev, General Director of the NCO and informed about the activities of the center. Aziz Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan has made significant progress in the field of oncology under the leadership of the Head of State and informed about the work done to improve the material and technical base of the medical institutions providing oncological service. Professor give the information on the long-term cooperation agreement signed between the National Center of Oncology of Azerbaijan and MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA) in November 2015. This agreement confirms the recognition of the high-level care for cancer patients provided at the National Center of Oncology of Azerbaijan by other leading clinics around the world.

Emphasizing the importance of the seminar, Professor A. Aliyev informed that despite the significant progress made in the fight against nosocomial infections, these infections continue to be one of the actual health problems in many countries, including our Republic.

The presentation of Hande Harmanci, Head of the World Health Organization Representation in Azerbaijan on "WHO guidelines for the nosocomial infectionsprevention and the methods used for their application"; Professor Mustafa Turan, Head of the General Surgery Department of the International Medical faculty of the  University of Health Sciences on “Infection control measures in burn patients and surgical patients. Modern approaches to the treatment of secondary infectious patients”; Zahra Vezirova, Head of the Intensive Care Unit of the National Center of Oncology on “Modern treatment aspects of pneumonia related to artificial ventilation”; Yaqut Qarayeva, Ph.D., Chair of the InfectionControl Committee of the Central Clinicon “Prophylactic of pneumonia related to artificial ventilation”; Yegane Abbasova, Ph.D., Deputy Director of the Treatment Department of the National Institute of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation on “Septic shock. Modern treatment methods ”; Teyyar Eyvazov, Ph.D., Director of the Residency Department of the Azerbaijan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors named after A. Aliyev on “Characteristics of immunosuppressive and chemical therapy in patients with seropositivity of HBV markers ” and presentations on other topics were discussed in the event.

The seminar for nurses on the topics ”Prevention of nosocomial infections. Daily routine rules”  by Emine Gungor, Member of Infection Control Committee of  Bagcılar Education and Research Hospital and “Standards in invasive and surgical interventions ” by Seriyye Cavadzade, Chair of the Infection Control Committee of the National Center of Oncology was held on February 20. The seminar was attended by more than 200 nurses.

The event was accredited by the Scientific Medical Council of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the end of the conference, participants were awarded certificates.
